Soft vs sharp brows for face shapes
Soft brows use a gentler curve or a quieter line. Sharp brows show a clearer peak. On Brow Preview the soft picks are Soft Arch, Soft Angled, and Soft Straight. The sharp picks are Sharp Arch and High Arch. Neither group is the correct brow for a face shape. If you are stuck, try one soft shape and one sharp shape on your photo.
Soft and sharp, side by side
| Comparison | Softer | Sharper |
|---|---|---|
| Shapes | Soft Arch, Soft Angled, Soft Straight | Sharp Arch, High Arch |
| What you see | A gentler curve, or a line with very little drama. | A clearer peak and more lift. |
| A common preference | When you want the face to feel softer, or you dislike a hard corner. | When you want more contrast, or you like a defined arch. |
| What it is not | A prescription for round or square faces. | A prescription for oval or long faces. |
How the soft shapes differ
- Soft Arch: a curve that rises and falls without a corner.
- Soft Angled: still soft, with a slightly clearer change of direction than a pure arch.
- Soft Straight: close to level, with only a hint of shape. Useful when a peak feels like too much.
How the sharp shapes differ
- Sharp Arch: a defined peak. The line changes direction in a way you can point at.
- High Arch: the peak sits higher. It adds lift. On a face that already reads as long, that extra height is the thing to look at twice.
The other shapes are Natural, Rounded, Lifted Arch, Straight, and Low Arch. Straight is flatter than Soft Straight. Low Arch keeps the arch down. Lifted Arch is a raised curve that is not as peaked as Sharp Arch. They are on the same picker, so you are not limited to the soft-versus-sharp pair.
Face shape is only a nudge
A softer line is a common preference when a jaw feels strong or a hard peak feels harsh. A sharper line is a common preference when you want the eye to catch an arch. Plenty of people with the same impression of their face choose opposite brows. Preview both moods, then let the in-person draw-on settle it.
Technique changes the mood too. The same arch looks finer as hair-strokes and fuller as powder. If the shape is right but the texture feels wrong, switch technique before you abandon the shape.
Common questions
What is the difference between soft and sharp brows?
Soft Arch, Soft Angled, and Soft Straight stay gentler. Sharp Arch and High Arch show a clearer, higher peak. The difference is the line you see, not a medical match to a face.
Which brow shape softens a face?
A lower, rounder, or quieter line often feels softer than a high peak. That is a styling impression. Try the soft group on your photo and compare it with one sharp shape before you decide.
Should I preview both?
Yes, if you are unsure. One successful preview is one shape and one technique. A soft shape and a sharp shape are two previews. Your artist can still draw something in between.
Not medical advice. The preview and the Brow Brief are homework for a consultation, not a procedure plan and not a picture of healed brows.
